Common questions

My grid is empty or nights are missing

Nightgrid reads sleep from Apple Health, so something needs to record your sleep there: an Apple Watch with sleep tracking on, another wearable whose app writes to Health (Oura, Whoop, Garmin, Withings…), or iPhone Sleep Focus with a sleep schedule.

  1. Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Nightgrid and make sure Sleep is turned on.
  2. Open the Health app and check that sleep appears under Browse → Sleep.
  3. Open Nightgrid again to sync.

For a night with no data, open it from the grid and choose Enter sleep manually.

When does last night show up?

As soon as your watch or app has written the night to Health, usually within minutes of waking. A night belongs to the day you wake up. Nights can still update until 6 pm that day, after which they're final.

I use two devices. Which one counts?

Choose a preferred source in Settings → Preferred data source. If it has no data for a night, Nightgrid uses whichever source recorded the most sleep. Changing source only affects new nights, so your history stays as it was.

How is the score worked out?

Each night gets a 0–100 score from sleep duration against your goal, time asleep while in bed, how close your bedtime is to your usual one, and deep + REM sleep (when your device records stages). Tap any night to see its breakdown. You can change your goal, bedtime window and what counts as a good night in Settings.

Restore a subscription

On the subscription screen, tap Restore Purchases. Inside the app, open Settings → Restore purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account you subscribed with.

Cancel or change a subscription

Open Settings → Manage subscription in Nightgrid, or Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Subscriptions are handled by Apple, so refunds are requested through reportaproblem.apple.com.

Widgets aren't updating

Widgets refresh when Nightgrid syncs new sleep from Health and again after midnight. Opening Nightgrid forces a refresh. If a widget still looks stale, remove it and add it again.

Colour-blind friendly colours

Open Settings → Colours and choose Colour-blind safe for an orange-to-blue scale that steps in lightness. There are six other palettes there too.

Export or move my data

Use Settings → Export CSV to save every night to a spreadsheet. Your data is part of your normal iPhone backup, so restoring a backup to a new phone brings your history with it.
